M & M Gifts and World Holding Co.

[Click to enlarge] Joycelyn Ham is an enthusiastic entrepreneur who operates M & M Gifts in Sandy Hill, a boutique specializing in gift ideas such as ornaments, trinkets, candles, soaps, floral arrangements and other niceties. She started this business selling "on a chair out of a box" (as she explains) and through visitors and friends she met while working at rental villas, she was able to get in contact with suppliers and attend international trade shows in her field.

Joycelyn is assisted by her bubbly 10 year old daughter Malika who enjoys earning pocket change helping out with the store, which is attached to their home.

[Click to enlarge] Joycelyn used to work once for West Indies Material ... a company that sold cleaning and laundry agents wholesale. She has just made another bold move to open her own cleaning/laundry supplies business out of a container in her garden called World Holding Co. Ltd., leveraging her past experience in the business.

Her aim is to provide her customers with good value and service. And an unusual bonus: she is even happy to deliver orders at no extra cost!

[Click to enlarge] Business places and households can check out her product range which includes brand names like Tide, Clout, Oxy Clean, Clorox, Downey, Gain, Cheer, Wisk, Pine Sol, Woolite, Joy, Windex, Tilex and Jobmaster. She also carries garbage bags, toilet paper, spray starch and more. Joycelyn is happy for feedback from customers so that she can expand her product line to meet their needs.

Contact Joycelyn at Tel. 264-497-4076. Fax 264-497-4184. Be sure to call before visiting to make sure she's at home.

Directions: Starting from the airport parking lot, take the only exit and turn left. Continue straight past Island Rental Cars and National Bank. When you get to Albert's Supermarket, turn right. Follow this road for several miles, past Tropical Flower Wholesale, until you get to the roundabout at Sandy Hill. Keep left at the roundabout and you will see the sign for "M & M Gifts" in about 1/4 mile and turn left.

Tennis Camp Goes Regional

[Click to enlarge] The annual tennis camp for children that is put on by the Anguilla Tennis Academy went regional this year.

In addition to the normal 3 week clinic in Anguilla with 9 overseas coaches and 170 children, founder Mitch Lake ([email protected]) invited young players from the USA (Colorado, Tennessee, New Jersey, and Kentucky) to attend as part of a cultural exchange.

The US players stayed in Anguillian homes and learned in the clinic with the Anguillian players. They even had a party together at the beach.

Then Mitch invited skilled young players from Puerto Rico, Saint Martin and St Kitts to attend the clinic.

And finally, Mitch organized a one-day clinic in Saint Martin for 50 children, and donated 50 racquets to the program in Saint Martin.

Fantastic Theatre Night: "Voices of Anguilla"

Last night was the inaugural performance of an original play based on the history of Anguilla. Written and acted by the young people of the Apple Theatre Company, it was creative, funny, moving, professional and quite entertaining. The entire intensive process, including writing the play and rehearsing, lasted only 2 weeks! There is another performance today at 2pm, upstairs in the library.

The production was directed by Eleanor Stacey and choreographed by Jasmine O'Brien, both originally from Nelson BC Canada but now from NY City and Victoria BC respectively. Eleanor has been running the Apple Theatre summer program for 5 years.
